Specialist Referral Checklist
The information, records and imaging that help us assess and process a referral efficiently.
For Brisbane dental teams
The free Referral Confidence Kit gives your team practical guidance on when and how to refer, how to prepare your patient, and what happens next—plus 90 minutes of free CPD from our specialists.
Built for the whole dental team
The Referral Partnership Standard
Referring is easier when you know exactly what will happen next. These five standards sit behind every referral we receive.
Our role is focused on the specialist consultation and treatment episode. Your patient's ongoing general dental care stays connected to your practice, where clinically appropriate.
Incoming referrals are handled through a triage process, so we respond according to the nature and urgency of each referral.
Clear fee guidance helps your team prepare patients for the consultation and treatment-planning process—before they arrive.
Communication is factual, constructive and focused on your patient's current clinical needs. We treat every referral as collaborative co-management.
Your practice receives clear correspondence at the completion of the specialist episode, so you always know where your patient is up to.
How the referral pathway works
The kit includes a visual version of this pathway that your whole team can keep on hand.
Send your referral online, by email or on a Focus referral pad.
Each referral is triaged according to its nature and urgency, and we contact your patient to arrange their appointment.
Your patient sees an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or periodontist at one of four Brisbane locations, or via telehealth where clinically appropriate.
You receive a report of findings and recommendations, and clear correspondence when the specialist episode is complete.
Your patient returns to you for ongoing general dental care. After implant surgery, restoration stays with you or the patient's prosthodontist.
